Broken Hill Art Exchange
The Broken Hill Art Exchange is a not-for-profit volunteer-run registered charity established in 2001, dedicated to expand the arts and creative industries in Broken Hill and the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia.
We provide affordable residencies and short-term accommodation for visiting and local artists both emerging and established from across all creative disciplines. During their stay, artitists can pursue their practice with uninterrupted time or engage with the local community through a workshop, an exhibition, open studio event or artist’s talk.
The Art Exchange runs a program of art and craft workshops by local and visiting artists and organises ephemeral art events in addition to annual recurring events such as the ‘Desert Equinox’ a renewable energy night light festival, and our Broken Hill chapter of the regional arts competition/exhibition ‘Waste2Art’ where participants use recycled materials to create art. The Broken Hill Art Exchange works in partnership with Lifeline Country to Coast, ERIA UNSW, LandCare Broken Hill, Nyatgi Arts, NetWaste ,Broken Hill City Council, West Darling Arts , Broken Hill City Gallery local artsits and galleries to deliver its progams to the community.
The Broken Hill Art Exchange is situated at ‘The Grand’, a 1880s repurposed hotel, in the center of town. It features the ‘Heritage Kitchen Gallery’, an on site 1880s-built stone walled gallery space available for hire for exhibitions and installations by visitors and locals.
