Shaped by mythologies: Creative genogram workshop

Join artist-in-residence Jack Harman for this creative family tree mapping workshop.

Family histories, stories, and cultural heritage shape our present day lives and identities in a myriad of ways. Harman’s practice frequently draws on material interpretations of his personal and familial narratives.

Genograms are tools with origins in psychology, used to map family systems over different generations and represent family members and their relationships using symbols and networks. In this workshop, participants will be guided to make creative genograms using a range of materials: collage, watercolour, acrylic paint, pencil and charcoal. The resulting multimedia work may capture elements of significant family stories, identity markers, or mythologies in a reflective and playful way.

The first part of this workshop will include a short presentation of the artist’s work.

Materials will be provided; however, participants are welcome to bring additional magazines or archives for collaging if they wish.
